SHONA OPENS NEW DINING ROOM FOR DUNDEE SURVIVAL GROUP
15 Jun 2018
NEW FACILITY FUNDED BY ASDA FOUNDATION AND DESIGNED BY SERVICE USERS
MSP for Dundee City East, Shona Robison has opened a new dining room at the Dundee Survival Group facility in Foundry Lane, Dundee.
Ms Robison, along with Shirish Patel, CEO of the Dundee Survival Group, cut the ribbon to welcome service users and guests to a special lunch prepared by guest chef Hayley Wilkes of the WeeCOOK kitchen.
The refurbishment of the dining room was funded by a generous £4000 donation from the ASDA Foundation. Local Community Champion Samantha Will also attended the event.
The Dundee Survival Group offers accommodation for homeless people living within Dundee, aiming to offer empowerment and improve their welfare. The dining room was developed and decorated by the charity’s service users themselves.
Commenting on the event, Ms Robison said: “It’s a privilege to open the new facility and I am delighted to have cut the ribbon for the new dining room. It’s an excellent space for the service users to be able to come together, eat and relax as a community.
“I applaud the ASDA Foundation for supporting this project, and the delicious food provided by Hayley Wilkes has been a great first meal for the room.
“My full congratulations to Shirish and all of the team.”
Shirish Patel, CEO of Dundee Survival Group, added: “This dining room has been designed, developed and decorated by the service users. It provides for them an empowered space, where they can work through to recovery, helping to end the cycle of homelessness.”
ASDA Foundation Community Champion Samantha Will added: “Eating round a table is the heart of a home; being always together rather alone. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to come together.”
Hayley Wilkes, from the WeeCOOK Kitchen, added: “It’s great to have been invited along to participate in the opening of the dining room. I hope that the service users enjoy it, and I’m very pleased and grateful to be part of this event.”
