Local MSPs Joe FitzPatrick and Shona Robison toured the site of the Regional Performance Centre for Sport, which is under construction at at Caird Park, with Dundee City Council Leader John Alexander and Councillor Lynne Short.
Work by contractor Balfour Beatty continues on the site of the £32 million facility, which has a construction completion date of autumn this year.
Artificial grass is soon set to be laid on the full size indoor artificial 3G football pitch, which will meet FIFA compliance standards. The centre will also feature an outdoor rugby sized 3G pitch suitable for rugby and football.
Scottish Government agency sportscotland is contributing £5 million towards the cost of the project.
The project also includes a renewable energy centre, which will provide a district heating capability that has attracted the first award of ERDF Low Carbon Infrastructure Transition Programme funding of £3 million.
Joe FitzPatrick, MSP for Dundee City West, said:
“Work is progressing well on site with the base surface now laid for the full size indoor 3G football pitch, which will soon be covered with artificial grass. It's set to be a fantastic facility for the city.”
Fellow MSP for Dundee East, Shona Robison, said:
“I was delighted to see how progress in the construction of the new Regional Performance Centre at Caird Park is coming on. Once completed this venue will be available for training and competition for a wide range of sports and will be a huge asset to Dundee.”
